FAQs about Trek Marlin

Is the Trek Marlin full suspension?

No, the Marlin is a hardtail mountain bike with front suspension only which keeps it lighter and simpler to maintain plus it’s better value than a full-suspension bike. If you’re still weighing up the options, browse all our mountain bikes.

Is the Trek Marlin good for beginners?

Yes, the Marlin is one of the most popular first mountain bikes. It’s comfortable on towpaths and forest tracks, and capable enough for proper trail riding as your confidence grows. Every model has hydraulic disc brakes for reliable stopping in all conditions.

What’s the difference between the Trek Marlin 5, 6 and 7?

The main differences are the fork, the gears and the dropper post:

  • Marlin 5: coil-sprung fork with a lockout and 9-speed gearing.
  • Marlin 6: RockShox Judy fork, 10-speed gearing and a dropper post.
  • Marlin 7: adds an air-sprung fork you can tune to your weight and 12-speed SRAM Eagle gearing.
What size Trek Marlin do I need?

Most Marlin models come in seven sizes, from XS to XXL. XS and S frames use 27.5" wheels, and medium and larger frames use 29" wheels, so riders of most heights get a bike that fits well. The XS has a curved top tube for a lower standover height, which makes it a good choice for smaller riders.

Is there an electric Trek Marlin?

Yes, the Trek Marlin+ 8 adds a Bosch Active Line Plus motor and 400 Wh battery to a 120 mm hardtail. It also has 12-speed Shimano Deore gearing, four-piston brakes and wide 2.6" tyres for grip.
